@1614 is proud to present former Oklahoma State University basketball standout Desmond Mason.
During his years at Oklahoma State University, Desmond Mason blossomed as a basketball player under the coaching of Eddie Sutton. He appeared in 3 NCAA tournaments, while advancing to the Elite 8. Mason’s basketball career was extended when he was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics with the 17th pick of the NBA Draft’s first round.
Desmond’s time at OSU not only helped his basketball skills, but helped developed his real passion, which was the arts. During his senior season Desmond started to get noticed nationally not for just his basketball talent, but his artistic ability as well, garnering a feature in Sports Illustrated.
"As I look at my paintings, when you paint something and you don't like it you can paint and start over. You can't start over in life, but if you take life as a daily thing, the next day is a new canvas."
In 2004 Desmond founded the Desmond Mason Art Show. Sales from his artwork are donated to numerous local charities. He has sold over 130 art pieces to collectors all over the world and has used his artistic talents to inspire kids and help his community.
"I look at why I paint, and what I paint for, and how I create..." Mason said. "Emotionally wherever I am, that is what my art reflects. That's really why once I start a piece I try not to stop until I'm done, because that emotion will change."
Mason has said, what inspires his art the most is his wife Andrea and their two children Jada and Elijah. Desmond is a true Renaissance Man and is known best for his integrity, philanthropy and passion for positive change.
