Jeffry Frieden, Stanfield Professor of International Peace and International Relations at Harvard University, spoke to the Groton community about the global economy and the United States' debt crisis on October 10, in the Marion D. Campbell Performing Arts Center.
Professor Frieden specializes in the politics of international monetary and financial relations. He is the author (with Menzie Chinn) of the forthcoming book, Lost Decades: The Making of America's Debt Crisis and The Long Recovery (2011). He also wrote Global Capitalism: Its Fall and Rise in the Twentieth Century (2006), which The New York TimesBook Review called "magisterial" and "one of the most comprehensive histories of modern capitalism yet written," as well as Banking on the World: The Politics of American International Finance (1987) and Debt, Development, and Democracy: Modern Political Economy and Latin America, 1965-1985 (1991). He has edited or co-edited more than a dozen other books on related topics. His articles on the politics of international economic issues have appeared in a wide variety of scholarly and general-interest publications.
