While surveying the river at this future hot springs resort I discovered that signal crayfish love hard boiled eggs. This crayfish is easy to identify due to the white patch that flashes in the joint of the two large front claws, making a signal.
As project biologist for the resort, its my job to determine the presence of species of special concern for Cal Fish and Game. I was surveying the river for the Shasta crayfish, rare due to habitat change and the introduction of the signal crayfish to the river. Upon find the signal crayfish, and in such abundant numbers, it became evident that I most likely will not be finding any Shasta crayfish here!
