2011: A Space Adventure
A short film by Simon Mesnard (2011)
Personal project
Music by Karreo (karreo.com)
- Composition & SFX : Stelian Derenne
- Direction : Mathieu Legros

* 3dsmax 2009 + vray 1.5 + after effects cs3
* made in 4-5 weeks approx. (off sound)

"A cosmonaut was sent to repair an old satellite. He just finished his mission when..."

This is not a sequel to 2001 : A Space Odyssey but some kind of tribute. The story of Kubrick's movie was supposed to take place exactly ten years ago. 2001 to 2011, I thought it was a good date to make something, even if it has no obvious relation with the original story.

If you are curious and want more informations, you can read this short online presentation, with some clues to understand the narration :

Not a sequel, but still a great visual odyssey - some strong design work and composed/edited with a film making flair. Interestingly melancholy with the soundtrack.

I'm sure the music composers will like your comment on the interesting melancholy ;)

    Wonderful.
you said rigid animation, but the character and his movements have a strong theatrical feeling, very emotional. There's passion here. Good job man. A movie with Soul.

The dream to the hopeful universe

Although we are crew ship [ which is called the earth which drifts to the ocean called the universe ] translations, can we also say our soul and sensitivity as the one universe?

That is, it is whether only the number of people has the universe.
  • Simon 3 months ago
Not sure I understood the true meaning of your question, but what I can say is I created an evasive end, so everybody can imagine what they want. And I like your idea that the Earth is like a ship in the universe/ocean. When I wrote the story line, I had so much ideas to tell, and a short film is ... so short to tell them ! :D

Great work. Are you an amateur or professional filmmaker? I mean, if you're a professional - great work! But, if you're an amateur - superb work! If you're ever gonna need some music for your films - let me know. :)
  • Simon 3 months ago
Well, I'm just a 3D graphist, but I'm really passionate. If you really want to know, I have a movie project for which I made a small teaser, but currently it's more a dream than anything else. More info here : vimeo.com/24578141

Speaking of creating music for my films, I already trust in karreo.com, a non-profit-making assossiation. But maybe you could get in touch with them if you want ?

  • Loved it. My only constructive negative feedback is that the entire thing is kind of...well...blurry. I don't know if this is due to HOW you uploaded it (bitrate) or what, but if you can make it less blurry that'd be SO AWESOME!
  • Simon 3 months ago
    Glad you loved it !
I don't know where that blurry might come from... I use vimeo recommendations on bitrate (5000 kbps (HD)). It may come from my 3D antialiasing parameters, in order to lower calculation times, but not sure...

Man the heart beat was epic...

I wonder if that's what it really sounds like when your heart beats for the last time.
  • Stelian 3 months ago
Thanks for the view and the listen, It sounded more poetic to my ears to get that extended heart beat sound, rather than something more realistic, something like, well, you know, ..., me neither...;)

    J'adore.

    Trop court.

    secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fr/wiki/Moon_%28film%29
  •
  • Simon 2 months ago
