A fossil is the remains or traces of a plant or animal that have been preserved in the Earth's crust down to the present day. Fossils collected from all over the world are our most more... important source of mation about the species that have existed on Earth since life began. All these specimens manifest one single truth: Living things did not come into being through the fictitious processes of the theory of evolution, but were created in a single moment.

If you discover a transitional form between species A and species B, it is no longer considered a "transitional form" but a new species. Now, you have TWO small gaps in the fossil record instead of just one big one!

If you insist on the fossil record accounting for every single transitional species, you create an unwinnable condition for any advocate of evolution. There would be so many fossils on earth that you wouldn't be able to take two steps without tripping over one. The earth would be covered with fossils.

    A similar problem:

Say you have to walk 10 feet. Before you can do this, you have to walk 1 foot. After which you have to walk to the 1.1 foot mark, then 1.11, then 1.111 feet, then 1.1111, and so on. Since there are an infinite number of distances to cover between 0 and 10 feet, you would never be able to complete it.

The same could be said about trying to walk from 0 to 0.00000001 feet.

Therefore, no human being has ever moved!

But Nick, iit's interesting you've brought up the "steps" argument. In fact, the "step" 1.000....1 to 1.000....2 steps have been seen! It's called micro evolution and it's been documented! See Dobzhansky and Darwin as they demonstrate/show this. Macro evolution however is a bit more difficult to swallow and even amongst evolutionists, require "faith" in not be able to see 1.000...1 to 1.000...2.

The issue isn't so much that it's step 1.000...1 to 1.000....2, but rather Step 1 to MILE 26.2 (macro-evolution). Something else is part of the equation. Scientists call this something, "chance/luck" (growing 13 mile tall left and right legs) while Christians/Muslims believe/have faith it is God (in the form of the Boston Subway system - See Rosie Ruiz).

And Jakob, it's interesting how you think asking macro-evolution theorists to "prove" it by showing even a 100th of the possibilities is unwinnable. Should that mean we can't hold to account macro evolution theorists as we do creationists?

Vimeo may not be the proper forum for a debate on this issue, but I am proud to see that the comments are NOT mean-spirited.

Someone build a freaking time machine already. Although if the 'Tower of Babel' taught us anything, we'd probably be scattered and all coding will be jumbled (therefore no more Vimeo)

    E-GAD!

George, help me understand what you mean when you say "macro evolution". Obviously, no animal has 13 mile tall legs. What are you referring to, specifically?

hahaha I love 13 mile tall legs

Even if most of your argument made sense, it doesn't prove that Allah created everything. What if a group of omniscient beings created everything and Allah just wants to take credit?
  • George Ko 8 months ago
I agree Dalas. That's where "faith" comes in. Faith in Allah/God... faith that step 1.11 or 9.54 occurred when no proof of it exists.

    Faith.

    Dalas, you rocked in "Cameo."

Dalas can't prove his omniscient beings/Allah taking credit theory, but I have faith in it.

I just took the red pill, so I figured it out. I recommend you all do the same...

Very interesting arguments. Not very convincing, though. Just because things look the same physically doesn't mean that they are the same molecularly.

Haha... My favorite part is when the very first known bacteria is compared to a modern bacteria. They sort of look the same (even though the really don't). Therefore, any evolution is impossible.

Oh, yeah, creationists... For the transitional forms: Tom Ray, a scientist doing research in the field of Artificial Life, has done an experiment called "Tierra" (http://www.nis.atr.jp/~ray/tierra/index.html). It beautyfully demonstrates the mechanics of evolution, among them the principle of broken equilibrium: A system of species is normally in a more or less stable state, until one of them develops an ability which is of true advantage for survival. A consequence of this advantage is in general a growth of this species' population, which in turn changes the world and forces other species to adapt to modified circumstances. What actually happens is a slow development of minor changes, which mostly goes unnoticed until a combination of those minor changes sums up to a major advantage for the species. The following change, caused by a growth of this species' population, is in general dramatic (the dark side of evolution), but after a period of chaos, the world will be in a new state of equilibrium, and the process starts all over again.
The same argument explains the development of complex organs, such as eyes: Evolution is an experiment on a broad basis, so there is a good chance not only to develop all the minor changes that are required to form an eye, but also to have some individuum combine all of these features to really have an eye. As having an eye is a real advantage in our world, a species with an eye will spread much faster than one without, so after a short while all the individuums that have not developped this great feature will be gone. The result looks as if an eye has been created from nothing.
I'm sorry to say that, but most of that creationist stuff looks to me like an oldschool version of "It has been on TV, so it must be true". Nothing is true because it has been written in whatever book, be it the bible or Qu'ran. Think a little for yourself.
