Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street
A lot of fantastic media has been created about the "Occupy" movement. I was watching one video in particular and commented to a friend, "Wow, seeing all those super smart hot chicks at the protest makes me want to be there." He replied, "Hmmm... Yeah, let's go with that."
We instantly went to Tumblr and made hotchicksofoccupywallstreet.tumblr.com. Our original ideas were admittedly sophomoric: Pics of hot chicks being all protesty, videos of hot chicks beating drums in slow-mo, etc. But when we arrived at Zuccotti Park in New York City, it evolved into something more.
There was a vibrant energy in the air, a warmth of community and family, and the voices we heard were so hopeful and passionate. Pretty faces were making signs, giving speeches, organizing crowds, handing out food, singing, dancing, debating, hugging and marching.
It made me want to pack my bags and pitch a tent on Wall Street. And it's in the light that we created this video.
And we hope it makes you want to be there too.
EDIT: Apparently a lot of controversy has erupted online from people passionately opining (among many things) that this is sexist, offensive, and dangerously objectifies women. It was not my intent to do that and I think the spirit of the video, and the voices within, are honorable and inspiring.
However, if you disagree with me, I encourage you to use that as an excuse to create constructive discussions about the issues you have. Because, to be honest, any excuse is a good excuse to bring up the topic of women’s rights.

BUT
but i like the idea
I was just about to write that myself :)
But the video itself was very graceful, poignant and respectful.
"Discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex, as in restricted job opportunities; especially, such discrimination directed against women."
Since women are not being discriminated or devalued, its not "sexist".
Therefore, this video is not "sexist". People who throw around "sexism" are usually ignorant about its definition and are reactionary.
Alfredo why don't you get educated and listen to a woman when she proclaims something feels "sexist".
I know some of you want us to clean up the park that is our title due to sanitation reasons.
But the title isn't going anywhere.
It will remain occupied.
hahahahaha

i'm like: blame the society, maaan!
The video is nice, but your title just leaves it open to so much misinterpretation, as well as justification by the mainstream tendency of men to reduce women their looks. This movement is bigger than that, so give yourself some credit and reconsider the title.
I'm actually hoping someone takes our video as a cue to do others... "Hot Dudes of Occupy Wall Street" would be a good start. More creative than just criticizing.
The title made me curious- not offended. After watching I was stunned/relieved/excited that the idea of "hot" that you portrayed was not at all mainstream. (i.e. Victoria Secret, etc..except for the MF lookalike but who could pass up a shot like that!?)
I agree with Stephen's statement. I especially loved how you captured the Egyptian woman. I feel like you did a great job at showing the beauty & compassion of women...you're a boy, if you want to call them "hot chicks", then whatever.
normal women aren't boring woods and aren't tattooing the body for themselves
that's all is placing the system for you, this revolution after conducts you above abyss where very many will pay life
you do not have a green concept how control operates that took you so far, trace history in that there were revolutions and fish out suggestions
The Planet Earth is doing what can so that a life doesn't die, is trying to relieve your tensions which are feeding you criminal mass media.
It is far much anymore possibilities, that the system was changed on the best, these possibilities you have in itself in the heart, begin to listen itself then then you will go out from this matrixa!
but watch out for traps because they easily to be lost
"Great video, but the title...cmon..."
seeing a progressive movement like Occupy Wall Street use an outdated sexist and objectifying slur in the title of a video which largely reduces women to "nice to look at" objects but gives two women a voice? it's not enough for me. i expect more. i should expect more. this is the issue at hand. if this were a fox news production i would not feel the same. if this were about the tea party, i would not feel the same. but this is occupy wall street.
@luisa, you're entitled to your own opinion but claiming people are taking this too "literally" and are being PC, i would totally challenge you on that.
Last time I checked these guys were "indie" filmmakers and we still lived in a free country. So, they have every right to produce and market their video anyway they see fit, the same way the self appointed PC police (you) have every right to critique it anyway they please. In a truly free society, people's work fails or succeeds on it's own merits. Some perfectly good videos never go viral for lack of interest, but 322k hits sounds like their succeeding to me. Nothing "shitty" about it. :)
All of this over the use of a word that some deem "offensive". I've seen plenty of female bloggers incorporating "chick" into the name of their sites, so this idea that it's "outdated" and it "objectifies" is completely subjective, don't you think? Unless, you feel it's okay when women use the word. You may speak for some, but you clearly don't speak for all.
Oh and by the way, the OWS movement may have been launched by a "progressive" bunch, but I can tell you that there are a quite a few people in that movement that have vowed to never let itself to be co-opted by partisan hacks the same way the Tea Party was. Whether they succeed or not is another story. So, here's a novel idea. How about we make this an American movement, instead of a "Leftist" one? *gasp* :)
