Synopsis
This film shows a family in Tibet and the TV images of the inauguration of the Beijing Olympics. Some family members are watching it, when an argument brakes out: this scene reminds us how little attention has been given to the problem of Tibet during the Olympics media campaign. A black-and-white film depicting a little private scene that makes us consider how easy it is to forget about important news.
Director's Statement
Before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, the idea of this film starts to spin in my head until the story came to light with its intent to oppose the extreme opulence, placed on display from China with the Olympic Games, and the well known acts of violence and coercion towards the Tibetan people. A Glance at Freedom was filmed in New York in August 2008 with the help of non-professionals actors and the support of Tibet House.
Despite the short time available, the film was treated in detail in order to recreate the atmosphere and environment of a Tibetan house.
And finally, highly contrasted images and a melancholy and sweet music, make this film particularly moving.
