A Mackintosh School of Architecture Friday Lecture from 26 Nov 2010 || Wiel Arets is one of the Netherlands’ leading contemporary architects. In 1984 he established Wiel Arets Architects in Heerlen, the Netherlands, after graduating from the Technical University of Eindhoven in 1983. Wiel Arets' projects, both architecture and products, have received numerous awards: the ‘Mies van der Rohe Pavilion Award for European Architecture’ with special mention 'Emerging Architect' in 1994 for the Academy of Art & Architecture in Maastricht, 'Rietveld Prize' in 2005 for the University Library Utrecht, the 'BNA Kubus Award' in 2005 awarded by the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects for the entire oeuvre, the 2010 'Good Design Award' awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture & Design for the Alessi products Salt.it, Pepper.it, Screw.it and Il Bagno dOt, the 2010 'Amsterdam Architecture Prize', and the 2011 ‘ContractWorld Award’ for the V Tower in Eindhoven
