A toddler tries unsuccessfully to sit on a doll chair, eventually injuring herself and destroying the chair in the process. The repetitive action is a meditation on the concepts of loss and longing caused by leaving one’s home and the painful process of assimilating to another culture. The inability of both the chair and the child to conform to one another related to the ultimate impossibility of true assimilation for displaced peoples into their new home culture.
