It was like an eclipse, though there wasn’t one planned for that day that I knew of…

The horizon was something that I’d heard about, and thought I understood, but the desert is to horizons what a morgue is to death. Still, I was determined to get there and see what happened if you stepped over to the other side. I drove on and on and on and things kept getting in the way. There was nothing crawling on the ground except me in my car and the only thing flying was the dust behind me pluming up like a liberated population in search of something that had been taken away. The silence was more than golden, it was worth it’s weight in life. When I stopped the car there was nothing filtering down to me.
