The updated video for the new Project Sunday single "Electric". This is the official internet version and includes a watermarked URL to my blog myhotmusic.com which is important in that this is our way of monetising the video across the internet.

"Electric" is going to be released as a download single in Mar/Apr but before then it will be released online as a "v-single", which is basically a video single that is monetised by sponsorship. I am actually sponsoring this song through my blog myhotmusic.com, so I can evaluate its effectiveness and to examine the key metrics. The next incarnation of the v-single will have video ads in between the content.

The updated video also includes tracking motion and a tweak of the settings to get a smoother slow motion effect as it was ghosting in the first version.

"Electric" was shot on the Nikon D90, and though I did have my other Sony HD camera and took some footage with it, the quality of the D90 images surpassed it by a mile.

I have also done some video "airbrushing" for the close ups as this is de rigeur as far as MTV videos are concerned. The D90 is now my music video camera of choice, partly because of its versatility but also because of its interchangeable lens and the sheer quality of the pictures. You could spend a lot of time and money trying to make a normal HD footage look like this but the D90 does it out of the box.

Enjoy and comment as usual. Also please visit my site
myhotmusic.com and vhprecords.com for more v-singles.

The video came about as part of a 6 part tv show I am producing about the girls from Project Sunday and I had the idea of making a music video for each of the girls. I was working with Melanie at the time on Electric and we decided that this would be the song we made a video for. She ran with it and came up with the basic idea for the video.

While I was in a photo shoot for another act, I was talking to the photographer who owned the studio and he mentioned this new camera with HD recording facility. I was going to use my Sony HD but decided to check it out and ended up on this site. After watching a few examples I was sold. I got myself a camera and spent a day reading about its various problems and workaround and started shooting.

I didn't care about its time limits as I used to shoot on super 8 and was used to limited filming time. So we shot Electric over 3 days (not consecutive) and here is the result. Hope you like it.

The song & video is available to pre-order from vhprecords.com

I didn't do stair step removal, though I do remember trying it in Vegas. The colours were enhanced in Sony Vegas but it came out of the camera pretty good. I also used New Blue FX film look to get an idea of what the film look should be and then did it all in Sony Vegas.

I also used just the kit lens and will be getting a new lens when I have a bit more money for it. By the way chappies my birthday is coming up soon haha (I wish).

Hi and thanks for the kind comments. I only used the stock lens on the D90. Will add more lenses as time goes by.

    Hi Kenny!

just a quick question. do you know if Final Cut Express has an "anti-ghosting" feature for it? i think sony vegas has it but final cut might too.

    Thanks!

Well the way I did it in Vegas was pretty much hit and miss. What I had to do was to change render settings to 24p just as the project. It has to be 24p. Then drop the quality down to preview and it killed off the ghosting.
No other method actually worked and I even tried some 3rd party plugins. No discernible quality difference I must add.
