Tinariwen, the 'guitar-poets' from Southern Sahara, really offered something special for the Other Music in-store series. After a jaw-dropping show, the Tamashek interpreter (not that easy to come by in NYC!) helped us do an interview with these far away friends.

i really like your style! :)
and i love this band, i saw them a few years ago performing live at the montreux jazz festival and playing a session with carlos santana improvising a very fine blues guitar.
...rightly said, they have an unique, unconventional poetic sound - great vid!

    Great!
Every year with Christmass we travel in Morocco by bicycle. There we learned about african music. Its really funny in Morocco they don't orientate at the western music market as everywhere in the world but on the African hits. In a fwe weeks time we find out what is going to be hot in Africa in 2010 :>

    Thanxs!

    Great video and interview.

I've been listening to Tinariwen for a couple of years now, but was finally fortunate to see them play in London earlier this year. So good live. They did a collaboration with English folk band Tunng.

Want to see them again now!
