“Concentricity 96” (2011) 38" x 37" x 15"

aluminum, acrylic, stainless steel, magnet, electronic components

Concentricity is an interactive light sculpture series. Each of the three works presents an illuminated white handle which the viewer is invited to move in any direction. Reed switches located within the sculpture’s circuitry sense the movements of a magnet contained in the handle and translate that information into LED light. For Concentricity 96, omnidirectional movement of the center handle is facilitated by twelve hinged pantagraph-type mechanisms. 96 red/white LED arrays as well as LED-lit acrylic circuit boards respond to the viewer's movements. joshuakirsch.com/con96_2011.html

Awesome fabrication and lighting design! Can you make a desktop version?

Awesome! I wish it outputs MID data so that it can be synced to some synthesizer parameters, for example, the cut off frequency of a low pass filter and panning position.

This reminds me of some of those ultra-formalist sculptures and sound/light inventions around the end of the 19th century; awesome!

It is awesome. It'd be much more awesome if it'd have music, I don't know I imagine that device with music. Thanks
