Deputies Laura Shands and Mark Cahill promoting the Sheriff's Start Smart class on News8 at 6AM during National Teen Driver Safety Week. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to unnecessary teen deaths on the road. The Sheriff’s Start Smart program is a free class for new drivers and their parents/guardians so they clearly understand their responsibilities when a teen starts to drive. A wrecked SUV from a DUI crash, graphic video images and true-life stories of victims make the dangers of drunk and distracted driving much more real. For a full list of Start Smart classes, visit bit.ly/fdRkfa. We encourage teens and their parents to attend these free classes. Together, we can make a difference and save lives.
