Recently I had the opportunity to travel to Japan to do some filming. Here is one of the few videos I will be releasing from the trip. This was filmed mostly in Tokyo (Kameido, Akihabara, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Roppongi). There are also parts from Kyoto, and Shiga scattered throughout.

You got some nice images man:)

    One question:

    Do you shoot 25p?
  • Joshua Herron plus 2 years ago
Thanks! Well since my camera is NTSC it's actually 24p, but it's basically the same thing haha.

    Thanks again!
  • Tomas Pollen 2 years ago
    Hehe, I get it :P
What shutter speed are you using?
  • Joshua Herron plus 2 years ago
I pretty much always shoot in 24pA / 1/24th shutter. I've always liked the look of it. I really want to mess around with some higher shutter speeds though.
  • Tomas Pollen 2 years ago
    I see, I could've guessed that.
Try to use 1/48. It gives a much more "movie-like" motion-blur.
Actually.. I would say: "Anything BUT 1/24".. but that is just my opinion..

As I said, you have some very nice images.. The only thing I see is that the movement is very "video-ish".
But having the shutter at 1/48 will do the job :)
  • Joshua Herron plus 2 years ago
Ahh, thanks for the tip!! I'm going to try that out for sure!

I assume you shot your location hunt video in 1/48, which would probably explain why it looks so good!

    Thanks again!
  • Tomas Pollen 2 years ago
    Hehe!
Yes, always.. or 1/50 to be very picky... since I live in a PAL based country :P
Twice of what the framerate is :)
    Thanks for the add!

Great footage! If you used the DVX100b, what settings did you use to get that look?
  • Joshua Herron plus 2 years ago
Thanks! For the most part the image I get in-camera is very flat with the colors. I take the footage through Magic Bullet Looks for all my color grading in post. But here's my settings.

    Detail level: -2
    V Detail Level: +2
    Detail Coring: -7
    Chroma Level: 0
    Chroma Phase: 0
    Color Temp: 0
    Master Ped: 0
    A. Iris Level: 0
    Gamma: Cinelike
    Knee: Low
    Matrix: Cinelike
    Skin Tone DTL: Off
    V Detail Freq: Thin
    Progressive: 24p(Adv)

    Hope that helps!
