Magic Lantern Install Tutorial
This is a quick 3 minute walkthrough of installing the latest (October 2011) version of Magic Lantern for Canon DSLRs. The link to follow, bookmark, and download from is:
magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Unified
With these more recent versions you DO NOT have to go through the process of making cards bootable, because what you place on the card does that for you now. This makes it super easy for anyone with a card reader to install and benefit from. This unified build works on the Canon 50d, 60d, 550d (shown in the video, aka T2i), and 600d. The 5d mkII also has a build, but it is different from the one shown in this video.
Make sure you also read the instructions and manual that are in the downloaded zip package. If you are running an old Canon firmware you will likely need to update that first.
Apologies for the nasty looking out of focus Flip cam footage, but you get the idea.
Huge thanks to Alex for making this tool so easy to use and useful.

Thanks again for the video.

I don't think this is true.
I think you just have to put Magic Lantern on each card you want to use magic lantern with.
I thought the diskboot flag was in the camera, so I'm not sure how it knows the difference between cards that have been firmware updated and those that have not.....
It use to be a 2 step process, first enable diskboot 1x on camera and then make cards bootable and load the autexec.bin file on each card. Now its as simple as loading the files up and shooting some video.
And I just loaded an unzipped ML folder (October 21) onto an SD card, and nothing happened....
...so it wasn't as simple as loading the files up....
When you go to format there is a little indicator to let you know if you want to keep or lose ML from the card. I think this is toggled with the Q button, but will need to reference the manual or camera to be sure.
I'm buying a used t2i to add as a second camera to my 7D. The 7D has Cinestyle loaded on it. I want to match the t2i to it. Can the t2i run Magic Lantern, and have Cinestyle installed as a picture style at the same time? Your video mentioned I have to clear the t2i's settings...how would this work? or can it.
Thanks.
T2i is a great compliment to 7D. Yes you can use cinestyle on both. The reason for clearing the settings is to avoid any hiccups in the initial install. I put cinestyle back on my camera after doing the first install and it works great.
I like to use LUT buddy from red giant with the LUT that comes with cinestyle to start working right away in FCP.
The only big video difference in T2i vs. 7D is the higher ISO noise performance. It is about a stop difference in quality of noise per ISO. 640 7D looks like 320 T2i etc...
I have a T3i (eos 600D) but ML doesn't work with this installation guide. Probably I'm doing something wrong. Can someone help me?
After installation, the interface is a mixture of Canon & ML...
Thanks!
First it would not work, found out it's crucial to have the newest Firmware (EOS 500D Firmware 1.1.1) then it works like a charm.
Another workaround I found; Since I do not have a card reader, i just used my hero gopro cam with USB cable as a card-reader, works.
Now I can't wait to use the magic :-)
