On November 3rd, 2009, Robert Brandon Smith III ran as a candidate for the 57th District of Virginia House of Delegates.
With no prior elected political experience and a history of homelessness, Smith was considered a non-competitor and was expected to get little to no notice.
We followed him for the days surrounding the election and saw his story unfold as he received over 21% of the votes.
