MINUS-EMBED will invite creative individuals to become an embedded participant on a weekend trip with Richie Hawtin to catalog, document and then respond to the event in an artistic format. This creative response will then be exhibited on the Minus website and possible other platforms. MINUS-EMBED is open to all creative disciplines; video, sound, web design, photographers, fine artists, fashion designers, etc.
For EMBED05 Christopher McNamara was invited to share the special moments in his work of art:
"I've been 'embedded' with m-nus activities and with the Hawtin family for years really - so when Matthew and Richard asked me to participate I felt it was important for me to work it as intuitively and intimately as possible. This meant using a small, unassuming HD DSLR camera and a portable recorder. I kind of figured that most of the crew and friends just assumed that I was taking still pictures - holding the camera in a way that certainly gives that impression. But of course, instead I was taking lots and lots of video.
Another dimension to my approach has been to consider how accelerated a Richie Hawtin event can be - and I thought it might be interesting to capture it and to almost give the impression that I am doing a slow motion examination - preserving moments in a suspension of electronic amber.
Often, late at night at these events I wish that I could seize certain moments and take them with me - as the lights flash and the shadows dance. But, of course, like all things in life, moments are elusive and we rely on our memories to savour them after the fact."
