Sky Full of Bacon 08: Pear Shaped World
Ever wonder about the people who grow and sell food at your local farmer's market? In this Sky Full of Bacon podcast, I meet Oriana Kruszewski, the lady who sells amazing Asian pears at Chicago's Green City Market, and learn how her love for tasty pears led to a 500-tree orchard plus everything from paw paws to black walnuts.
Shot last fall as she prepared to pick and store her last pears of the season, this podcast will take you back to a time when things were still green, and get you ready to start watching for great locally-grown produce soon at your own farmer's markets. More info at skyfullofbacon.com/blog; if you don't know what the "mulefoot pig dinner" was, see Sky Full of Bacon episodes 5 and 6. (15:46)

Fenger 9 months agoMy mom just started growing Asian Pear tree two years ago in her backyard (three trees), and she had her first harvest this past summer, much to her amazement as she didn't expect the trees to produce for another year at least. Oriana reminds me of her a lot.
