Since March, 2007, I've been watching an old growth patch of deer lichen along a Florida Scenic Corridor: Scenic Highway 30-A in NW Florida. In July 2007 and again in May 2008 a mower trimming grass beside the bike path has run over the lichen, killing it. I called this "Terror on the Timpoochee Trail", documented on this page: wholeo.net/Lookout/lookout2007/movies/lookout07deerMoss30A.html. In December 2008, another mowing missed the plants leaving them to continue recovering. Deer lichen is slow growing.
