There is a reason why Reno is marketed as the adventure capital. This ride is one of them! Peavine offers a collection of trails, single track and fire roads which will keep any avid mountain biker busy for years! This ride is a ton of fun with challenging climbs that gleam hill crests overlooking the stunning Reno valley. Included in this ride are some nice technical sections that discipline you to focus, work hard and overcome. The famous "bacon strip" is a roller coaster type descent that will leave you walking crooked, panting and smiling.
This is a tough workout. The first 1 hr and 10 minutes are grueling with an average heart rate in the mid 80's percentile. At the top of the climb, we'll be mildly humiliated as one of Team UNR's finest mountain biker / climber's will pass with ease. This is the climactic end to the climb and the fun descent down the "Bacon Strip" begins! We can relax a little, but still maintain only a slightly sub-anaerobic heart rate as we fight the rocks and boulders an an attempt to control the bike and keep in in line. This workout is excellent interval training. There is no comfort zone, no cadence, no consistency, just lots of work rewarded with lots of fun!
