So far (2011.10.23) we have discovered 696 planets outside our own solar system. When new planets are registered Elodie starts moving. The movement is activated by a single "punch" inside the foundation, resulting in an orbiting movement that will slowly fade down. Elodie will also be sensitive to movement in its environment, resulting in smaller shivers. The planet discovery indicator explores the fields of making digital information more tangible. Investigating how ambient information can become more physical.
ELODIE; An echelle type spectrograph installed at the Observatoire de Haute-Provence. The purpose of this instrument was extrasolar planet detection by the radial velocity method. In 1995 Elodie detected 51 Pegasi. It was the first Sun-like star, other than the Sun, found to have a planet orbiting it, an earth-like planet.
