Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden are developing a new method for determining how to optimally prepare a tooth to place an artificial dental crown on it.

The researchers’ software shows exactly how the dentist should manoeuvre the grinding tool in each situation, in order to achieve the optimal tooth shape before putting in a crown.

The method is expected to result in significantly cheaper and faster treatment, and improved quality and reliability of the crown replacements.
