HSJ visited the NHS Confederation's PCT Network conference and found out how commissioners were feeling about the journey towards being world class.

Its all very well the Government coming up with new catchphrases like 'World Class ' implying a clear pathway to the achievment of improved healthcare services and outcomes but the reality is failing PCT's need to be dealt with now not left to contribute to the situation we see in Mid Staffs.

Lewisham PCT in South London is a case in point , its equalities record is appalling , Lewisham hospital accident and emercency service is a nightmare and the area offers the worst community MH services in the country ( Healthcare Commission , Jan 2009 ) yet failure after failure there is no change in leadership of the local NHS Trusts run by croonies who seem to have focussed most of their attention on ignoring each others incompetence and failure . The people of the London borough of Lewisham deserve better as a bog standard service would be a qualitative improvement on the current state of services here.
