Wonderful! Brave enough to indulge new approach, yet deliver the JMag signature. You're truly the exemplar of wedding video industry.

    Congratulations Maestro!

tell us a bit about the workflow.
did you edit this one in premiere?
  • Jason Magbanua plus 10 months ago
Hey Lee! How is Canada? Hope you are doing well and great. Say Helo to Bruce for me,

I edited this on Prem CS3. Copying from CF was a breeze. 5 minutes per 4gig card.

I scaled down to a DV timeline. It took four times longer to render and export than a regular SD project.

I did not need that many CFS, I just had three which I would rotate. My regular shooters were shooting DV.

My instrucitons then was, complete coverage, pretent I'm not there.

    Take cre Lee!

my journey to Bruce starts feb 12th>>
hopefully i'll get to play with his toys while there..
try to imagine my huge hands all around that small camera...hehe
i want to try to edit some 5d footage on my laptop on a premiere cs4 timeline and see what happens.

4 times longer ha, i was afraid of that .
i've heard that Cs3 has lots of bugs maybe you should try cs4 and see if its faster.
On my Acer laptop cs4 runs pretty fast and there are some interesting functions for working with CF cards.

did i saw you in another video you posted at facebook panning handheld !!!! infront of the church while the bride entrering???

    lee
  • Jason Magbanua plus 9 months ago
I tried CS4 and it is much much more stable than 3.

That said. I'm opting for encoding the 5D footage first in procoder before importing to Premiere. That way, I can manage to edit while waiting for footage to enode.

Hello Jason. Amazing result, very clean.
Was it comfortable to use and total control of the camera?
    amazing as always. thanks Maestro
  • Jason Magbanua plus 10 months ago
I found the manual controls sufficient enough. (iris and compensation and AE Lock).

The record button was a bit uncomfortable but I got used to it.

    Thanks!

Hi Jason. U r so brave! I noticed a steadycam shot at 2.38. How did you manage that? On a merlin handheld or an entire rig? Looked like u had several 5D2 there. Great job as usual.
  • Jason Magbanua plus 9 months ago
Sean, that was a shot on GC 4000.

This was just one borrowed 5D. Getting one soon. =)

Good stuff Jmag. Using this camera is way easier than using a video camera with a DOF adapter which you have to carry ariund and then install and uninstall.

How much video were you able to record to the 4 Gig CF Card?
  • Jason Magbanua plus 9 months ago
Hey Elliot, Around 12 minutes for 4 gigs.

35mm adapters though have their advantages =)
  •
  • Elliot Charles 9 months ago
So you recommend a DOF adapter any way right? How easy is it to install and remove? Or is it best to have a video camera with a dedicated DOF adapter? How does it best suit your workflow?

I'd like to incorporate this type of adapter into my video workflow.

Thanks in advance for the input.
  • Jason Magbanua plus 9 months ago
I still do, especially for longform/documentary work. You can only rely on the Canon for money shots.

5min transfer for a 12min footage si really good it helps to speed out the workflow. Jason is it attached to GC4000 all the time?
  • Jason Magbanua plus 9 months ago

Hey guys, I am now just playing with the 5dmk2...yes better late than never! Love the vids man! I'm wondering...what is the fastest way to edit the reems of footage I'm generating? and also...is it worth keeping my Canon XL1 or should I send it to the great Ebay in the sky and put it towards a 7d or get a matt box and rails etc? I find the XL1 still opens doors where a DSLR just gets that funny look? Ideas from anyone welcome!
