Prev week
I shot some footage of the crossing using an anamorphic lens (a cylindrical lens) that stretches the scene horizontally. That way I was able to get the entire crossing into one shot.
Then I put two copies of the scene on top of each other, and slipped them about 5 seconds, and made a difference matte. I used this difference matte to isolate only the people from one layer, and added them on top of the other.
Finally, I then did the slow pan by moving a crop rectangle across the finished scene. I could not do it by moving the camera, since it would have been practically impossible to generate the difference matte that way.
