Ruantallain lodge sits at the eastern coastal edge of Jura, one of Scotland's emptiest islands, and forms part of a large sporting estate . It was the venue for a group celebration of Hogmanay 2007.

The property came with log fires, drying room and a snooker annex, and the weather was suitably wild to enforce a satisfying sense of besieged winterdom, but the week ended up being defined by unexpected drama and, for one unfortunate member of the party, an airlift to the mainland.
