One can see Iceland has marked you profoundly as well. And you put it through imagery and sound in an exceptional manner.
Particularly liked the 4-split frames: the parallelism in time makes me think of timelessness in Iceland.

Do you have an aproximative map of your trip across the country? And how long did it take you?
  •
  • Tarek El-Ghazaly 3 months ago
Ok so that was some EPIC DANCING at the end! I'm curious though, what were you afraid of? Getting lost? Didn't you carry a GPS around like the other travelers you met at the end of the clip? Also, I couldn't hear what you said when "When you spend time alone, ........."? But that was one outstanding video account! Extremely, super fortunate person. Last questions: How long did it last, and how did you eat? What did you do with your garbage?
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
Merci! And yes, had a GPS with me, anything else would be stupid. I said "you can get fed up with yourself a bit...honestly", had enough of myself at that point!

    -It was 25 days.
-Didn't eat enough! Was constantly hungry, lost about 4kg. No fun. Couldn't stop eating after coming back for weeks..
-Carry it around till you find a garbage bin. And there are not to many out there! :-)
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
and GPS: It doesn't help to know where you are when you still can't get out of there! : )
  • Tarek El-Ghazaly 3 months ago
Well, I'm used to being spoiled by a GPS+map+clearly-demarkated-streets-built-by-humans :)

How was the temperature like? Your clothing seems to range between swimsuits and heavy, full-body and face mountain clothing (while walking on flat surfaces)... were the weather changes that drastic? Did you feel you were catching a cold during the hike?

PS - I'm amazed by the fact that even in the middle of nowhere out there, they have a few garbage bins, and probably even employees who come to collect this garbage, and maybe recycle it.
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
Yes, drastic weather changes! The wind was pretty impressive! And you don't get a cold from being cold usually : )
And no, I was being a bit sarcastic! Only sometimes you will pass a hut, where you are allowed to leave your garbage. But that is quite rare as well.
  • Tarek El-Ghazaly 3 months ago
Hmm. Well this might be a bit of a stretch, but maybe next spring you can do a "MADE IN CANADA" video? I'm sure you'll find British Columbia breathtaking, unless you have something else planned for your next hikes...
  • Muaaz Mohamad Nor 3 months ago

You must be a great fan of "Into the Wild".
I love your trip (and you too).
I imagine a trip really close to yours, that I promise me to do once. I hope it'll be as great as yours.
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
Oh, I read the book but I cant agree with the ideas of the young man. Or let's say, I had a completely different reason to do this trip. And yes, you should just do it! I'm sure it will be a great trip : )
  • Uraninum 3 months ago
So, what was your reason ? having fun or more ?
For me, that will be to wide my perspective on the world, to experience nature and obviously for fun too :)

  • Roman Kur 3 months ago
Beautiful film... Did you edit the video footage yourself? What software did you use? I don't understand why you were scared, was the loose rock sliding you down into the canyon?
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
Premiere Pro it was, and me it was. And, yes you got it! All moving! Was locked in that valley till a found a sheep bath after some climbing...Couldn't use the camera on the very dodgy bits, and also didn't want to, but was up that mountain for 7hours...and it was my all my fault!

everything about this is so perfect! the scenery, the editing, the music (OH LORDY THE MUSIC). I absolutely adored it, and i love the great personality you lend to it with your small personal segments.

Just wonderful, wonderful work. You've made me want to undertake one of these trips when im older.

So that leads me to my question, did this take a lot of planning? self preparation? Is this something you usually do?

Thanks a lot, and again, great work.
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
    Thanks a lot Nick!
I did spend a month on researching and getting the equipment together. I have never done anything like that before. I was quite a "wildfang" as a young kid, but forgot how much I liked the wild outdoors for a long time. I just had the urge to do a solo-adventure and then started!
It's all about that first step in the end.

Gorgeous, but why dont you credit the music ? Kind of unfair to the musicians and everyone who wishes to know who they are.
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
Hi Jonathan, haven't had the time yet but, I will do so in the next minutes. I don't want to be unfair to anyone : ) Especially not to my favourite musicians ; )

Wow this was great. Loved it. Would you mind sharing the equipment you used? What camera and external mic? What tripod? I'm impressed by how stable some of your shots were.
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
It's a Canon 550D, a Nikorr 35mm and some more. Had ZOOm with me, but hardly used it and a Manfrotto carbon tripod that a borrowed from a helpful friend...and still was incredibly heavy!!! It was a love-hate relationship!
  • kevin m 3 months ago
The colors you captured were also really great. Did you use a lot of filters? Post-processing?

And finally one more question (sorry! :) ). You overlayed some really clean sounds, like water trickling, over some of your shots. Did you use the 550D's internal mic for those?

Again, really well done. I'm really intrigued by the whole mood you captured throughout. You did a really nice job.
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
I only used an ND filter during the day for close-ups to adjust the depth of field and spend some time on the postpro as well. Sound, man, I still need to learn but for now it's a mixture between internal mic, a ZOOM and other samples. The wind was a real pain though, so I couldn't use half of my sound-footage...but at least you get red cheeks : )

Was that a VAUDE Hogan Ultralight Argon in the video? If yes, can you recommend it? :)

PS. Hug a hiker whenever you can! ;)
  • Klara Harden 3 months ago
indeed the Hogan took good care of me! Yes, I think it's a great tent...and anything more lightweight would have been muuuch more expensive.

    PS. I will!
  • Giuseppe Franco plus 3 months ago
Hugsforhikers: I have the same tent (in green) and it's perfect for Iceland and to travel alone. I did 2 month in my tent without any problem. I had 2 consecutive days with strong wind that pushed my tent almost on the ground and changing side every 3 second and nothing broke (that was on faroe islands).

1.5kg is not that much and you have to layers so no condensation inside and realy waterproof even in strong rain.

So I recomend it as well
