FC2009 Fursuit Parade Point Cloud Test Render
9 months ago
This video is the result of me playing with point reduction methods on the FC2009 point cloud. The total cloud is made up of 3 passes of the line of fursuiters, and ends up being around 331 million points. Just culling based on laser angle (the LIDAR was a Velodyne HDL-64, this render is using ~30 degrees of the 360 degree scan, meaning we no longer render the road, the hotel, and other dense objects that kill our point rendering budget) and distance (maximum 5m from sensing center, so trees are out) reduces a single pass to around 3 million points, easily viewable in the House of Cards renderer (code.google.com/creative/radiohead/). I'll be posting a special version of the viewer and the dataset soon.
This render has no lighting model, hence the issues with being able to see very little detail and everything looking fairly white and washed out. Also, the alpha curve could definitely use some adjustment (alpha is calculated based on lidar reflectivity readings).
I didn't realize iShowU picks up computer audio as well as the screencast, so it picked up the track I was listening to while recording this. But it works so oddly that I just left it all in. Kinda makes it more pet cemetery than fursuit parade, though, doesn't it?
