"As a time-lapse enthusiast, I wanted to create a documentary that offered more than just visuals. My plan was to create a film that would utilize time-lapse photography as the principal technique for acquiring the visuals while narration would provide a story of the deeply rooted history and geology of this incredible region. Professional time-lapse techniques bring the film to life with techniques such as the utilization of motion-control camera movements and a multi-month solar-powered time-lapse camera deployed into remote wilderness locations to capture seasonal change." - Doug Urquhart

    Beautiful shots!
How do you keep the lens from freezing or collecting dew?
  • The Upthink Lab plus 3 months ago
My secret weapon to keep the glass above the dew point is simple: 1 rubberband & 2 chemical handwarmers. It works every time, although, when you run out of handwarmers you have to gamble with your luck. No handwarmers = a frost covered camera rig (see photo to the right). To be on the safe side, I even used warmers on the MX-2 unit for overnight shots. The largest problem was ice forming on the 8020 extrusions. Each morning, we would have to bust out a lighter and/or our cooking stove to remove the ice and allow the cart to move freely. Discovering ice on the extrusion moments before starting a shot @ sunrise is a real nightmare. Always fighting against the clock (& cloudy weather in the Rockies)

The Stage zero really works well for this kind of project huh? How have you found working with it?

Pull focus at 1.35 piece of art!

This project would not be possible without the Dynamic Perception rig. Jay & Chris have opened a new door of opportunity when it comes to affordable, yet high-end, and reliable moco time-lapse. The size and weight of the entire system worked out very well for the back-country in Alberta.
