Please don't take the following the wrong way, I don't mean to bash this project and I know that it's research/prototyping, but this is just my general feeling when I see this video.
If I check the weather every morning, followed by the news, why do I have to say "Mirror", wait for feedback, and then say "Show me the...". Why doesn't the mirror know I like to check the weather first so automatically pulls it up when I stand in front? And you could just put the weather icon on top of the webcam feed directly instead of using a fancy gesture. The gesture seems to be there for no apparent reason.
Also, copying the headlines to your phone seems like more effort (and time consuming) than just checking a (good) mobile news site directly on the phone. That is way faster then waiting for all the headlines to appear and disappear and putting your phone up there. Plus that you might also like to check some items that aren't really headlines (or headlines that appeared after you left home), so you'll look at the site anyway.
The medication thing could be useful, but what happens when you want to check it while downstairs or away from home? And how often do you have to check this information while in front of the mirror? Displaying this information on your phone seems to be way more useful.
Again, I get this is part of the NYT R&D and not a finished product. This is just my two cents.
