These two Greater White-fronted Geese may have been separated from their migrating flock a few weeks ago and fell into the company of some Canada Geese. Although they pass overhead during migration, this species doesn't ordinarily winter here. Occasionally, you see a few like this in our area and they usually spend the whole Winter with a flock of another species.
These are young geese and have not yet developed the white area on their foreheads and the black breast streaks of adults. They are a bit darker and smaller than many of their species. There is lot of variation in size and shade of color in the different subspecies, varieties and populations.
