The Midwives Alliance of North America is a national "social movement" organization inclusive of all midwives, regardless of education or legal status. MANA's goal is to "unify and strengthen the profession of midwifery, thereby improving the quality of health care for women, babies, and communities (mana.org)." In 2008, MANA turned 25. Told through the voices of the women who created this organization, including "founding mothers", members and supporters, as well as footage from MANA's annual conference (Midwives Alliance 2008), this film documents the birth of a powerful sisterhood--one that continues to evolve and grow--holding as it's main tenet: safeguarding normal, natural childbirth.
