The sensor is usable for preventing a wreck or "hard landing" as well as for flying on the fixed altitude over the ground. If the distance between pilot and model is equal to tens metres and more, a visual assessment of the altitude of flying becomes imprecise; it is complicated to assess the flying altitude precisely using the image of the on-board video camera as well. The device allows reducing the risk of flying on a low altitude.
