This move by the executive council along with the Stony River's request for a moratorium and Eagles Nest's agreement with that request show signs that the sleeping public is waking up and smelling the sulfuric acid. Of course there is nothing like the threat of losing your land or the sound of drilling rigs on your property or nearby to arouse interest. But, the equally significant threat of water pollution from acid mine drainage (sulfuric acid) and the killing of more wild rice has yet to be adequately addressed and is another reason for a permanent moratorium on exploratory drilling and Non-Ferrous Mining in Minnesota.
