A 35-year-old man was booked into Shasta County jail Sunday, the day before his 36th birthday after he allegedly drove his vehicle through a fence and hit a tree at Bailey Avenue and Marquette Street in Burney. Cleve Lonny Clinger was driving south on Marquette Street about 9:20 p.m., Oct. 29, 2011, when he crashed into the tree, Shasta County sheriff's deputies reported. A California Highway Patrol officer said he then fled the scene before deputies traced him to a residence less than two blocks south on Marquette Street. Clinger was treated at Mayers Memorial Hospital before being booked into county jail and later released for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, drunken driving, hit-and-run driving, and violation of parole.
