Occupy London hosted an afternoon of sermons on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral on Saturday 29th October 2011. Preachers were drawn from all faiths and those sections of society with none. Rumour was it that there was even a Satanist! One thing united them: support for the Occupation camp set up between St Paul's Cathedral and the London Stock Exchange.
Only after this event did the Bishop of London and the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral agree to come and talk to the Occupationists in person. Occupy London did not seek conflict with the Church of England. The church took on the Occupation and crashed.
The worldwide Occupy movement highlights the problems caused by predatory capitalism and corporate power gone mad. Spanning every continent, over 80 countries and in over 1,000 cities, occupations have been set up by people comprised of the 99% of the world's population, declaring that society can be run for everyone's benefit, not just the 1% who presently own the planet.
