I LOVE Halloween. The chance to make up my own face- or that of a willing model - into a character, gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling all over. With that being said, it’s no surprise I was more than willing to aid in the transformation of Chief Stylist Kiki Smith for a Halloween inspired maternity shoot and a costumed night on the town.
Kiki commissioned her friend and artist Jackie Lo to assist in creating her Dia de los Muertos inspired look. To start in her transformation, I prepped Kiki’s belly with foundation primer in order for the cream makeup that Jackie would use to adhere to her skin better. Once prepped and primed, Jackie began her painting magic by using synthetic bristled art brushes along with black and white cream makeup. Once Jackie finished working on the skeleton baby, I then stepped in and helped her to cover the surrounding skin with black cream makeup and then proceeded to set Kiki’s painted belly with a setting powder.
