A really nice job executing this project, guys. Having a small shop of my own to create and make things when the vid business is in the toilet, I can totally relate to making something with physical dimentions and usefulness rather than electronic files. It's too bad this kind of artistic craftsmanship is lost today, having been taken over by large mfg. companies. (Though it looks like he starts with pre-made knife blanks rather than from total scratch). Too bad Joel has not yet learned the lesson / importance of protecting his eyes...we only get two of them. I thought the music track was a bit heavy, and would have opted for something lighter and more optimistic. I liked the ending shot with the moving shadows. B&W seemed to work good on this piece as well.

I agree with Warren. That was an inspirational remark. And what a fantastic piece of film! I am very impressed.

I have one tiny critique: the shot at 8:43 felt off a bit. The style was beautifully consistent, but I didn't like that outside (versus inside) wide angle (vs CU) shot.

But that's a very minor remark. I was very inspired by watching this, keep it up!

Absolutely great doc, not only capturing the essence of your subject, but allowing his words to take on a broader context and be inspiring. The film making managed to step out of the way of all that, while maintaining it's own artistic statement. Just brilliant.
