My beginnings as an artist started with sculpture. I would carve into natural materials (wood /stone etc.) without knowing what I was creating and something profound would always emerge. I further developed my craftsmanship with the confidence that something would always show up and carry me through. It wasn’t long before I started getting clearer visions of what I wanted to create. I no longer wanted to be limited by the size and shape of the materials I could acquire. I experimented with assemblage techniques and felt a strong connection to the processes I had developed for creating my own style of sculptures. The idea of life in the materials or life in a work of art fascinated me.
We posted this video to help people familiarize yourself with who David Rudolph is as a person and the reason for his creative processes.
