One of the original Croydon crew that helped shape the sound of dubstep, Arthur ‘Artwork’ Smith has been making house, techno, UKG and all-round London beats since the mid 90s. He started ur-dubstep Croydon label Big Apple at the shop of the same name, made the influential 'Red EP' in '02 and let the teenage Skream and Benga hang out in his studio where they picked up production skills and honed their banter. Also one third of stadionstep supergroup Magnetic Man, he's now one of the most successful producers to emerge from the UK underground. During the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 he sat down for an extended chat about beats, Rinse and life. Enjoy!
