A short film made only from still photos.

Not really a short film... it was a test but I liked it, so I spent a few more hours (ok, a lot of hours!) to finish it...

It was made by editing in Final Cut pro a series of still photos of the actor I took with a Nikon D70s.
I used a lot of hand made paint textures, drops, ink brushed lines, etc. I also used some old stone wall textures.
I composed every shot in Photoshop splitting footage in layers, drawing and pasting things like a kind of "collage" or patchwork.
Later, I made a 3d composition in After Effects.
Every layer was internally animated independently and later composed in a 3d environment in which I put lights and DoF (depth of field).
The music and sound effects were made with Soundtrack and Apple loops.

By the way, thanks for the comments!
This site is really well done! Congrats to the staff!!!!!

    Very well done.

Can you please explain a bit what you used and how you did this so everyone who is about to watch this can get an idea. i'm sure people will want to know.

    Totally second that !

    Hi!, thanks a lot!.
I put some words about the process in the description box.. ;-)

Yes yes please share your process!

    This is great.

I am confused how the snow part near the beginning was made if this was done from still photos.

Did you use Soundtrack Pro for the music or at least loops from STP?
  • Carlos Lascano 10 months ago
You´re right. I used Soundtrack Pro clips. ;-)
The snow part is the only filmed footage I used in the coposition. I think it creates a good illusion of movement mixed with the stop motion style.

It looks good and I really love the idea.
    (good compositing by the way!)

    DON'T SHARE YOUR PROCESS!!!!! :)

A magician will never tell you how to do a trick... this is the same for stopmo movies i think...

this is good work dude !
  • keith 10 months ago
Good point. I'm always on the fence about that one. But once someone asks you seem like a tool if you ignore the question.
  • Golgottan 10 months ago
    Aren't we here to share?
  • Carlos Lascano 10 months ago
in fact there are no trick... is just put one frame next to the other! haha..
believe me that I understand what you said LAX.... but if you think about it.. Is like in drawing. The tools are a pencil and a sheet of paper. I think, the key is the way you use them.

I think it's very clever that you keep framing elements always in place (such as the black photograph vignette that is constantly around the main content or the window frames). It reminds me of the photographic process in that the viewer has a sense of control of composition over what one sees through these frames that you've placed throughout. Better though, is when the hands of god break through these frames to inspire the character held within them.

    good work.

There´s a beatifull use of force framing or cropping images on a Michel Gondry´s Video.... (I dont remenber the name of the video now) In wich he moves the camera (a sequence shot) along a set and go framing the shots to tell the story... is awesome!

I agree with LAX. One of the first things I promised myself when I started learning card tricks was NOT to tell anyone how I do it.

I wanted to know how you created this film, but sometimes NOT knowing is the greatest mystery and makes anyone want to achieve that goal.

Thanks for uploading this beautiful piece.
