eL Seed grew up in France and started spraypainting in late 90’s. Born to Tunisian parents, he continues to foster strong ties to his motherland. Moving to North America, eL Seed’s interests in calligraphy and graffiti collided and fused together. Developing on the tradition lived by the first Arabic calligraphers, eL Seed chooses to paint a message rather than his name; his calligraphic compositions bringing to life what is otherwise perceived as an ‘old’ or ‘dead’ civilization. His work, taking inspiration from the past to encourage hope for the future, has been displayed around the world and featured in many international publications.
About Sajjal ana 3rabi
‘Sajjal ana 3arabi’ is the title of a new exhibition by eL Seed. It’s aim is to bring the viewer into a space that encourages reflection on the profound questions raised by the revolts that gave birth to the so-called ‘Arab Spring’. Expanding his repertoire, eL Seed presents wood sculptures, stained glass compositions, and a range of large-scale canvases to express his thoughts on and reactions to the revolts in Tunisia. The concept for this exhibition centers on the viewers’ experience of change.
