From 2003 - 2005 I was part of a household in Santa Cruz, CA called "the Shop." Every member of the Shop ever was an amazing artist. Great events, images and recordings spilled like milk. I think of this video manifesto musical as our family album.

I wrote this for "the Shop" to perform in 2005. It starts with Julia Fredenburg. She is joined by John Acquadro. Then Spencer Owen steps in with Libby Hendon. Finally I sing with Brad Presentati. Shan Raoufi and Mandy Brown provided technical assistance including homemade dolly operation, the switching on and off of lights and general handy work.

Here's what we sing:

Life is busy. If we’re going to make it better, instead of living and dying like dogs, we can’t commodify change. When we make our dreams our goals we waste time. Who are we waiting for to enable our joy?!

Rather, when we dream of brilliance that suits us best incorporate it immediately into how we live our lives. It can be subtle, every action shaped by ideals. For the calligrapher penmanship is art!

Life's not easy. It’s hard to remember dreams. But when critical of our lifestyles we can effect change. Don’t set your dreams far off. You'll make them harder than they really are. Beauty breathes thought and action. It’s up to you to change the world.
