No problem. The event looks incredible. I've been debating whether to go or not for a while... this might've just been what I needed to see to make my decision. :)

Great cinematography!! I really like it.

Weren't you afraid because of all the dust?

DSLR + Dust (especially during lens changing) = not good :)
  • Ahmed plus 3 months ago
Thanks! I was a bit concerned, so I ended up only changing lenses indoors. A fair amount of forward planning was needed and I definitely lost a lot of good shots because i did not have the right lens on. The 7D is supposed to have very good weather sealing though so I figured, its better than the alternative (Not shooting at all!) Lenses and sensors seem to have weathered fine so far.

I can definitely see some dust on your sensor :)
Hope it's all cleaned-up and everything is ok.
  • Ahmed plus 3 months ago
Thanks. Just curious where you see the dust?
  • vamapaull 3 months ago
I've highlighted the part where the dust is visible:

Yup. You're right! I actually caught this one after I uploaded the video. A few cycles of the automatic sensor cleaning and it seems to be back to normal now. Good catch :)

What I love about your shooting is the way you use the motion of foreground elements passing through the frame to reveal often a little interesting subject or surprise in the background. You have a great eye for seeing intersecting lines and motion that takes a real talent to observe in real time while it is happening on location. The video makes me feel like I am visiting another planet. Bravo!

Thank you! The glow that you are referring to is mostly due to all the dust in the air diffusing the light more than any combination of settings. I’m afraid I don’t remember the settings for that particular shot in any case.

  • awesome! this convinced me to bring my dslr next yr. All I had this yr was my gopro :/

I'll be there next year, with my 5D mkii, can't wait.
  • Ahmed plus 3 months ago
I must admit, a 5D would have been great for the night shots! I had a hell of a time focusing with a wide open 50mm prime+trying to keep my iso to a reasonable level. Good luck next year!

how did you manage to not get your stuff stolen?

i mean there are 50.000 people out there... i guess more than one guy would love to get a 7D or a 70-200mm L serie lens...

i'm planning on going this year...but at night i wanna get wasted as well.. but i'm afraid of leaving my equipment out of sight... my stuff costs around 6000$

is it safe to leave the stuff in a car?
  • Ahmed plus 2 months ago
Your stuff should be pretty safe. People generally haven't made the trip halfway across the world (or more) to steal each others things. In fact you are much more likely to have people offer you things out of generosity (food/drink/little gifts...). Sorry if this sounds all touchy-feely, but If you go there you'll understand. Not that you shouldn't take precautions, but for a city of 50,000 people, its fairly/remarkably crime free. Good luck!
