  • Outstanding work and superb presentation!
The editing side of things must have been an absolute nightmare i.e. damn hard work, but its beautifully done.

    Congratulations ... quality documentary.

    Chris.

There was a lot of Arabic to get through and the color correction took an age to render.

    Thanks for your comment.

Wow very well done, great editing and shot composition. Great beautiful colors and shallow depth of field, what lens adapter and filters did you use?
  • Oliver Wilkins plus 10 months ago
Hi justin, the footage was shot withe the ex1 and Letus DOF adapter, with various nikon lenses. For the micro shots of the kids drawing I used a cheap sigma ?? to 300 zoom f4.

Colour corrected with Magic Bullet Looks - used the tilt shift filter on some of the shots of the kids interviews.

    Many thanks,

    Oliver

The footage came out really nice! I'm thinking about buying the Letus, how noisy is it when its on?
  • Oliver Wilkins plus 10 months ago
Letus is great. Noise hasn't bothered me. The adapters do suck light though.
  • Justin Ho 10 months ago
Thanks, i was on a set today and they were using a letus, I didn't hear any noise from it. Are you only limited to using photo lenses with the letus? Someone on set said they thought that.
  • Oliver Wilkins plus 10 months ago
You can order it with various different mounts - stills like nikon and canon, as well as PL mounts for cine lenses. Prob more info on their site.

    Great film, amazing shots
Were you using an external HD to record on the ex1 or were you using the sxs cards and if so how many were you using. I still find the digital workflow using these cards while shooting a bit of a hassle. I've had a terrible experience with the HVX200 in that respect.
  • Oliver Wilkins plus 9 months ago
Hi Ramy, Thanks for the comment.
I was using the Ex1 with an 8GD and a 16GB sxs cards. I was using an HP 2133 web book to off load in the field. A bit of a pain but cheaper than buying more cards. I've just bought a couple of card adapters from e-films.com.au/ will be trying them out in the next week.

As for work flow. I'm getting used to it. You have to convert the files using the XDcam software, but with a macbook pro you just slide in the cards and it's pretty quick.

    Thank you for the reply.
The funny thing, at least to me is that I did bid for this film with UNICEF and what makes me happy is that it turned out a really nice looking and thoughtful film.

    Hi Ramy,

Many thanks for your kind thoughts - much appreciated. Yes, I suspect we've bid against each other a few times, I hope we'll get the chance to work together at some point.

    Beautiful work -artistical and touching.
I am quite impressed with what they achieved, I think those Egyptians behave even better regarding hygiene as Europeans do. The Europeans talk and do little. Those Egyptians listen and do so much.

    Thanks Pedro,

Egypt has a lot of challenges but there is optimism, pride and commitment especially from the youth. I think they would be very grateful for your comment.

Beautiful documentary. I like what you did with the blown out skies and backgrounds. Must be though filming with this harsh sunlight.
  • Oliver Wilkins plus 7 months ago
Thanks Martjin, most of the outside stuff was early morning. We managed to get everyone out of bed very early. The indoor stuff was pretty ugly lighting but Magic Bullet helped a lot.

America sure doesn't appreciate water as much those people do. Water is the most valuable resource in the world, and we all must use it wisely.
