super nice ideas! which barcus berry mics were you using for the library? they sound amazing.

they are Barcus Berry Planar Wave - they come with a matching preamp which is v.important - if you don't match impedance then the contact mic gets a HPF... I am going to write a blog post about my experiences recording this library, so will update here in a few days with a link....

Lovely! Looking very much forward. So far i only experimented with the AKG C411 and some self built ones.. Seems the Barcus Berry outperforms them.

The warm Low-end you get on the basket at 00:36 and the plastic at 01:47 sounds great. What are you hitting it with? It looks like a felt material that is giving it a nice soft attack.

hi John - its actually one of a pair of drum sticks that are made of wool - very soft to touch & very handy to totally soften the attack... I bought them locally, suspect they are intended for playing bass drum in pipe bands or something...

Great idea! It's inspired me to grab my mallets and experiment! Excited to hear and read more about the collection.
