The Student: Charlotte Spatcher is a senior at University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she is pursuing a dual bachelor degree in marketing and communication. Charlotte was introduced to our programs through a marketing professor and a prior-year student participant. Along with 30 students enrolled in this summer's I-MIX [Interactive Marketing Immersion Xperience] program, held at the headquarters of Merkle in Maryland, Charlotte had the opportunity to team-pitch AARP on how best to use Betty White as a one-day spokesperson and proposed a digital and social application. During I-MIX, she also was introduced to and interacted with Merkle's business leaders, among them CEO David Williams. "It was a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand what happens in a leading direct and interactive agency, and to experience it with other future marketing professionals," she said. Having been so impressed by our first event, Charlotte then attended our Student Career Forum in Boston, where she not only benefited from a full day of programming featuring top direct/interactive businesspersons, but also was able to attend as a guest the Direct Marketing Association's DMA:2011 annual conference, joining 9,000 participants. "We sat in the first row for the keynote with [DMA CEO] Larry Kimmel and [Twitter Co-Founder] Biz Stone -- it was a real thrill. We also were able to walk the exhibit floor, seeing the array of companies in this business." Charlotte graduated in 2012, and believes we have given her career start a leg-up.
