First sermon in this series on Acts. Acts 1:1-11. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he taught his disciples about the Kingdom of God. In last Sunday’s sermon, Kevin dug into the nature of this Kingdom of God. First, the Kingdom of God is dramatically different than a kingdom of this world because of the way it defines power. The kingdom of this world defines power as power-over people. The Kingdom of God defines power as power-under, the power of self-sacrificial love, service, and the cross, rather than the power of the sword, coercion, or pressure. Second, the Kingdom of God is not primarily about what we ought to do but what Jesus has already done for us. Third, the Kingdom of God is about being empowered by the Holy Spirit to be his witnesses in our neighborhood, city, and the world. This sermon was delivered at New City Church of LA on November 6, 2011.
