At the end of January, Rapha sent a team of six riders to ride all eight stages of the 2009 Amgen Tour of California. Riding each stage on consecutive days and matching, as closely as possible, the route the pros will start riding tomorrow, every morning for the next week you can find out how they got on.

With an exclusive report posted before each stage begins, and accompanied by compelling photography and video, the Rapha Continental brings you the Tour of California from a unique perspective. For a (slightly) slower but more colourful examination of the places and people that make up this year's Tour route, visit: rapha.cc/continental/index.php?page=694

I really like the data stream at the head of this episode. Obviously correlated to the V.O. and photography of the state.

    Beautious!

Wonderful movement and pace to these pieces.

Great post-production work on these spots. Always thrilled by the opening montage. Vibrant film flares juxtaposed to beautiful b&w imagery.

Do you ride, or were you just hired to make the video?

Dave rides and that's one reason why we hired him as our cinematographer; the other being he makes beautiful short films. We thought it was really important to have someone along that understands cycling and gets the emotive side to it as well. You can have a great film maker, but if they don't get cycling then you don't get these amazing short films that Dave has put together for us. Plus, he is just amazing all around.

Dave produced a freelance video a bit back and he is the cyclist in the short...check it out here: vimeo.com/747034

I know where that bridge is at the 1:02 mark :) I've biked up and down California a few times... and this makes me want to run screaming out into the night and get on a bicycle and just never stop.
